The Market Week in Review :

Happy New Year! And best wishes for a successful 2012! I believe this will be a very important year for the world economy, financial markets, and the leadership of many nations in this world, as it starts the very powerful Uranus-Pluto Waxing square, 2012-2015. Soooo... very little will go as expected. Lot's of surprises.

I like the way that Wall Street Journal columnist David Wessel expressed it this week in an article titled "An Economics Columnist Peers Into the Future". He describes what the consensus is about the economy next year and what could make it turn out even better. Then, he concludes (totally in the spirit of Uranus-Pluto) : "Odds are the consensus forecast for 2012 is wrong. It almost always is. An economic columnist's heart wants to believe the economy will do better ; his head tells him it's likely to be worse". Man, I couldn't say it better myself - which I why I quoted him.

One very interesting development of this past week was the sell-off to new multi-month lows in Gold and Silver. It fell right into our time band for a potentially exceptional buying opportunity. A special "buy" alert was sent out on the evening of December 28 to all subscribers, following Gold's touch of 1550 that day. The formal buy recommendation on Gold and Silver then went out in a special report at 10:00 AM Thursday morning, via email, as Gold traded around 1529-1531 and Silver around 2650. I am still resting my eyes, prior to my lecture tour in Zurich and Amsterdam that starts next week. Thus this week's column will be short.
